Fitness Test
Where you begin depends on your current level of fitness. We suggest you begin at the stability level and work your way up so that you adapt your body to the demands of the exercises. Follow the progressions and proceed to the next level only when you can maintain perfect form at the current level.
-
Stability (and alignment)- This level focuses on improving your ability to align your body correctly. It is extremely important that you develop a good base before moving on to the strength level of training.
-
Strength is the second level of training. Strength level focuses on making the same stability exercises more challenging through greater range of motion and added resistance.
-
Power is the highest level. Power level exercises are much faster and more dynamic and thus require much higher levels of both strength and stability. Have you ever heard the statement "Speed without control is a dangerous thing?" Stability and strength are essential to your success at power level
At the Monkey Bar Gymnasium, we focus on traditional bodyweight exercises. As you progress from stability to strength, to power, you will learn how to add resistance to these traditional movements. Proper alignment and good form are critical to your success and a must if you want to avoid injury. Our workout tips offer suggestions on how to progress safely. Just remember, "if you strain to gain, you will end in pain"! The Monkey Bar Gymnasium’s workouts are extremely physically demanding and must be approached with caution. If you are new to working out, try only doing half of each workout for the first 2-4 weeks and slowly work your way up to the full reps, sets, and weight recommendations!
The Monkey Bar Gymnasium is unlike most other gyms, because we don’t use traditional equipment or focus on isolating large muscle groups. Our workouts focus 100% on functional fitness and full body movements. Please visit our video library in order to familiarize yourself with our exercises.
Nutrition
At the Monkey Bar Gym, working out is only half of the fitness equation. We also provide nutritional guidelines, food shopping and preparation classes, and inspiration. Here’s our nutritional philosophy, in 10 simple suggestions.
Before starting, it helps to know exactly what you’re eating. Many people are self-delusional about what they eat (actually, most of us are
. They think they eat better than they do. To avoid deluding yourself, keep a food diary for three to seven days — more is certainly better (log it into your MBG Food Journal)! Write down everything that goes into your mouth–and be specific. If you eat a ham sandwich for lunch, note the type of bread, how many slices of ham, and all the trimmings and condiments. Keeping such a record will heighten your awareness of your eating patterns and give you a realistic starting point.
Next, Rate Your Diet with our Online Nutrition Assessment. You will be given a special diet to follow based on the results of your assessment.
