Building Leg Strength

Whether it’s box squats, one legged pistols or vertical jumps, the key to building leg strength is…

Make sure you maintain proper alignment.

What is proper alignment? Remember these three points:

  1. knees pointing towards the big and second toe
  2. balancing 50/50 left to right
  3. chest and butt sticking out with a long spine

Keep these points in mind on any leg exercise and you’ll do yourself some good. To gain strength and or power, add resistance to the exercise in the form of resistance cables, kettlebells, d-balls, sandbags, dumbells, barbells, a person, a tree, anything. As long as you can maintain the three points, you’re cool!

The next thing to do then is simply make sure you progress each week. Resistance is resistance, and increasing the challenge each week will surely make you stronger.
