Inner Sense: Unlocking Mind-Body Balance Through Interoception & Proprioception

Interoception refers to the body’s ability to sense its internal state, providing real-time feedback on various physiological conditions, such as hunger, thirst, temperature, and heart rate. It involves how we perceive internal signals like the beating of our heart, the fullness of our stomach, or the need to take a deep breath. Essentially, it’s the body’s internal “sixth sense,” responsible for monitoring and regulating vital functions.

When it comes to creating more balance in the body, interoception plays a crucial role in connecting physical awareness with movement control. Here’s how it relates:

1. Enhanced Body Awareness

Interoception helps you become more attuned to the subtle signals your body sends. For example, during exercise or balance training, noticing your heart rate increase or the strain in your muscles allows you to adjust your posture or technique. This heightened self-awareness improves physical balance because it enables real-time corrections. When you're more in tune with how your body feels, you can better understand when you're pushing too hard or need to make slight adjustments to maintain stability.

2. Proprioception Synergy

Proprioception, often described as the sense of body position and movement, works closely with interoception. While proprioception allows you to understand where your limbs are in space, interoception informs you of the internal state of those muscles and joints, such as whether they are fatigued or overstressed. Together, these systems allow you to fine-tune your balance by integrating both external and internal cues.

Pain’s not dramatic—you are. 🙂
Here’s something no one wants to hear:Pain is not your enemy. The real enemy is the belief that you shouldn’t feel it. It’s not a punishment, or a glitch, or something to just “get through.” It’s not the opposite of health. Pain is the communication tool towards health. It’s your body saying, “Hey, something’s out of alignment—physically, emotionally, structurally, maybe relationally. Pay att...
You can hold a plank and still be a mess
We throw the word alignment around a lot—especially in the fitness world. But let me be honest with you:Alignment is not just about posture. It’s not about looking symmetrical in a mirror or stacking your bones “just right.” Real alignment shows up everywhere. In your joints. In your emotions. In your relationships. In your habits, your breathing, your thoughts, your timing.Even in your sense of...
You did the work… so why don’t you feel better?
I’ve been thinking a lot about something lately: How can a body want to feel better…and still resist the very things that help it heal? We stretch, we breathe, we lift, we train—and in the moment, it feels good. The release. The power. The calm after. But then the next day? That tension creeps back in.That old pain resurfaces. That doubt shows up again in the form of fatigue or tightness or jus...
